Side sleeping is at its most comfortable when your body stays in line. A body pillow keeps your knees stacked, your hips level and your top arm resting easy, so you can settle in and stay there.
Ours is filled with New Zealand strong wool, two kilograms in the Buddy and three in the Body. Wool absorbs up to a third of its own weight in moisture without ever feeling damp, drawing it away from your skin and regulating your temperature. Nothing is added to it. No antibacterial finish, no flame retardant, no plastic.
The fill is yours to set. Unzip the cover and take some out for a softer feel, or put it back for firmer support. The Buddy, at 110cm, reaches from under your head to below your knees and leaves room in a shared bed. The Body, at 155cm, runs from your chin to your feet.

Buddy, 110 x 31cm. About 14cm high when filled, with 2000g of wool. On most adults it reaches from under your head to below your knees, which is the span that matters when you sleep on your side. It sits between your knees, along your front, behind your back, or behind you to sit up in bed or a chair. On a Queen bed it leaves plenty of room for someone else.
Body, 155 x 38cm. About 15cm high when filled, with 3000g of wool. It runs from your chin to your feet. On a Queen bed it takes up most of one side.
Start with the Buddy if you are not sure. It suits most adults up to about 180cm, and it sits easily in a shared bed.
Choose the Body if you want more length. It runs from your chin to your feet, so it suits taller sleepers over about 180cm, and anyone who wants the pillow supporting their legs and ankles as well.

100% Cotton. 300TC cotton percale. Buddy 120 x 40cm, Body 165 x 47cm.
Stonewashed Linen. Heavy linen that is rough and soft at the same time, with an invisible zip. In Oyster, Moss, Ink and Onyx. It looks good enough to leave out on the bed during the day. Same sizes as the cotton.
A pillowcase goes over the pillow's own cover, so you wash the pillowcase and the cover stays clean. Both machine wash cold.
Pure wool does not like to be roughed up or heated while wet. Regular airing keeps it fresh and reduces how often it needs washing.
The cover. Unzip it, take the wool out, and machine wash the cover on COLD like any white cotton. Cold water guards against shrinkage.
The wool. Do not machine wash the wool. Wool holds odour inside the fibre rather than letting it sit in the air, so a few hours of airing, in the sun if you can, does more than a wash. If it needs more, hand wash it gently in warm water with wool detergent and let it drip dry.
Every few months. Take the wool out, give it a shake and put it back. It evens out the fill and lets you reset the firmness.
You may notice traces of natural vegetable matter such as grass, straw or thistle in the wool. Some makes it through the double-scouring wash. It softens with use and is a sign of how little is done to the wool.

Switched from a synthetic body pillow
I used to have a body pillow filled with synthetic fiber. It did not regulate temperature well; turned very wet if I was sweating... This wool-filled body pillow is everything I wanted. It deforms just enough to shape it to your body, but not enough to lose its support... It's nice to get rid of the plastics.

The Buddy is the perfect size
Unlike other bulky body pillows I have tried this is a perfect size. It's narrower and not too long... I get a sore back in bed and this pillow has transformed my comfort and sleep. I love it so much i purchased a second one for the bach. It was a little over stuffed for me so I removed some of the lambs wool stuffing. This was super simple to do and the pillow is now perfect.

Why a Body Pillow
Lie on your side and your body drifts out of line. Your top knee drops forward across the bottom one, your pelvis rolls with it, and your lower back twists to follow. Your top arm has nowhere to rest, so your shoulder folds in. You hold that shape for hours.
A body pillow fills the gaps. Between your knees, it keeps your legs stacked and your hips level. Along your front, it gives your top arm somewhere to rest. Behind your back, it holds you on your side. One pillow does the job of the pile most people wedge around themselves.
Why the Buddy is 110cm. The span that matters on your side runs from your shoulder to your knee. On the average woman that is about 86cm, and on the average man about 94cm. The Buddy covers it, from under your head to below your knees, without taking over the bed. The Body, at 155cm, is there if you are tall or want it from head to foot.

From Paddock to Pillow

The wool comes from more than 250 partner farming families on New Zealand's East Coast, all working to New Zealand Farm Assurance Programme standards. The region's warm maritime climate grows strong wool with almost no plant matter in it, which is why the next step needs no chemistry. Wisewool's family have been grading wool here since 1894.
Cleaned, Tested and Made Into Fill
Most wool used in bedding is chemically carbonised to burn out plant matter, scoured with harsh detergents, or bonded with synthetic resins. Ours goes through none of that. It is washed gently, without chemicals, then processed into a springy loose fill at the Wisewool factory at Te Poi. Independent residue testing to method IWTO-DTM-59 found nothing detectable.

Start with the Buddy if you are not sure. At 110cm it reaches from under your head to below your knees on most adults, which covers side sleeping and every propping position, and it leaves room in a shared bed.

The fill is medium to firm, so it holds its place between the knees, behind the back or along the length of the body rather than collapsing under weight. Customers tell us they reach for it through pregnancy, through periods of reduced mobility, and simply for something to hold.
It is a comfort and positioning pillow, not a medical device. If you are recovering from surgery or managing an injury, your physiotherapist or surgeon is the right person to tell you how to position yourself. Wool draws moisture away from your skin and regulates temperature, which helps if you are running warmer than usual. The cover is 300TC cotton, certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®, which means an independent laboratory has tested the fabric for harmful substances.
In Australia and New Zealand, women are advised to settle to sleep on their side from 28 weeks. That advice comes from your midwife or doctor, not from us, and either side is fine. If a body pillow makes that position more comfortable to hold, that is what this one is for.

Because of what is in it and where it is made. Two to three kilograms of New Zealand strong wool from named farms in Gisborne, washed gently with no chemical carbonising, no resin bonding and no flame retardant, and independently tested for residues. Then every pillow is cut, filled and sewn by hand in our Auckland workroom, not in a factory overseas.
There are cheaper body pillows and there is nothing wrong with buying one. What you generally get for less is a polyester or foam fill, a fixed size, and nothing to tell you where it came from.
