Loose New Zealand wool fill in a 250g pack, for topping up a wool pillow or filling something of your own.

It is the same Wisewool™ fill that goes inside our New Zealand Wool Pillow and Body Pillow. Wool settles with use, so when your pillow sits lower than you like, unzip it and add a handful. It also suits cushions, pouffes and pillows you make yourself.

New Zealand strong wool is a coarse, springy fibre, which is what gives a wool pillow its medium to firm feel. It absorbs up to a third of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp, then gives it back to the air. Polyester absorbs under one percent.

The wool is grown on Tairāwhiti Gisborne farms and made into loose fill by Wisewool. Nothing is applied to it. We weigh and pack every bag by hand in our Auckland workroom, in a resealable bag you can keep any spare wool in.

250g of loose wool fill, in a resealable zip-lock bag.

As a guide, from what we put in our own pillows:

  • Standard wool pillow, about 900g
  • King wool pillow, about 1.2kg
  • Buddy body pillow, about 2kg
  • Body body pillow, about 3kg

A top-up is usually a handful or two, so one pack goes a long way. Filling a pillow from empty takes several packs. Any 2 items in one order save 15%.

  • 250g Wisewool™ loose wool fill, New Zealand strong wool, 36 to 39 micron
  • Resealable zip-lock bag

Nothing is applied to the wool. No antibacterial finish, no biocide, no flame retardant.

Do not machine wash the wool. A few hours of airing, in the sun if you can, does more than a wash.

If it needs more, hand wash it gently in COLD water with a wool detergent. Do not wring, agitate or tumble dry. Let it dry fully before it goes back in.

You may notice traces of natural plant matter in the wool. It softens with use and is a sign of how little is done to the wool.

I have made myself and my partner a pillow each with your lovely Loose Cloud Wool and we have been enjoying the comfort of it, and the nice sheepy smell!

Awesome product! An awesome wool pillow filler. Takes a couple of weeks to settle to get the right fill. It is quite dusty to work with so best to use it in a ventilated area with a mask

Thank you for your feedback (and purchase) Jonathan. You are right in saying the Wisewool Cloud wool is an awesome product, and you have also witnessed first hand how good wool is at holding on to dust and not releasing it into the local environment - unless you give it a good shake. The dust you refer too is created during the process of taking raw strong wool fibres through the specialist machinery to form the 'Clouds' - this happens at the Wisewool plant, near Matamata.

We are testing different processes and steps to try and remove the dust before it reaches our customers, but haven't found the right solution yet .

Great product.

Being able to buy the loose cloud refill was perfect for being able to put into my existing pillow that has a zip & swapping out the inside fill was easy. Also means you can put in as much or as little as you like.
It does smell a bit sheepy to begin with but that fades in time & it's not too bad.

FAQ

For a top-up, a handful or two, so one 250g pack goes a long way.

To fill from empty, as a guide: a Standard wool pillow takes about 900g, a King about 1.2kg, a Buddy body pillow about 2kg and a Body about 3kg. That is roughly 4, 5, 8 and 12 packs.

Unzip the cover, tease a handful of wool apart so it is light and open, and spread it evenly through the pillow. Zip it up, give it a shake, and sleep on it a night before you add more.

Keep what you do not use in the resealable bag.

Yes. Pillows, cushions and pouffes all work. Use a cover with a zip so you can add or take out wool later.

“Also means you can put in as much or as little as you like.” Sarah

A little. Loose wool carries some fine fibre dust from processing, so open the bag and work with it outside or in a room with good air flow. Once it is inside a cover, it settles.

Some people notice a faint wool smell when it is new. It fades with time, and a few hours of airing, in the sun if you can, speeds it up. Nothing is applied to the wool, so it is the wool you can smell.

Not in the machine. Air it instead, and hand wash it gently in cold water with a wool detergent if it ever needs more. Full care instructions are in the panel above.
